  • My teacher and friend who is a master knitter is also a master spinner. I started learning spinning with her, then on a whim went to a weeklong workshop with Judith MacKenzie who is an internationally known fiber artist, storyteller, and amazing woman.
  • Fell in love with weaving
  • I bought a used loom and have taken many workshops from some skilled and kind women teachers (Side note: Used to be men did the weaving and women did the spinning of fiber)
  • I am learning tapestry from the other teacher
  • Whether I am knitting, spinning, or weaving I find these processes meditative.
  • They bring me back to the moment.

  • I remember my spinning teachers tell say that 15 minutes a day will improve your skill.
  • I know being a fiber artist full time can be a challenge financially for some, yet the older teachers have stated they are concerned it won’t get passed on to the next generation.
  • So my encouragement to you is to get out those knitting needles, dust off your spinning wheel or loom, and set aside time for you.
  • When you feed your soul you get grounded in your body again, you are more able to respond vs reacting to what life throws at you, and you can keep the traditions alive.
  • Research and various knitting books state how it can positively impact your mental well being-decrease anxiety, depression, stress
  • Fibers arts have brought me:

    • Flow of ideas-both in my business and personal life
    • Creative outlet
    • Feeds a passion
    • When you buy from local fiber artists you often get the name of the sheep or place where the fiber was grown
  • Sustainable and eco-friendly businesses
